Improve tone & texture with

PicoLazer

What It Is & How It Works

PicoLazer is an advanced picosecond laser that refines skin tone and texture with little to no downtime. It delivers energy in ultrashort pulses measured in trillionths of a second, which break up unwanted pigment and trigger your skin’s natural renewal process with minimal heat. Because PicoLazer is non-ablative, the surface of your skin stays intact while the laser works on the layers beneath.

PicoLazer can help improve dark spots, freckles, fine lines, acne scars, stretch marks, enlarged pores, and unwanted tattoos. Its 1064 nm wavelength is suitable for all skin types and tones. This makes PicoLazer a versatile choice for patients who want visible results without the recovery of more aggressive lasers.

PicoLazer delivers laser energy in super-fast bursts lasting trillionths of a second. These pulses shatter pigment into tiny particles that your body naturally clears away over the following weeks. The same rapid energy also stimulates repair beneath the surface, encouraging smoother texture and a more even tone without damaging the outer layer of your skin.

PicoLazer is a great option for many patients seeking mild to moderate improvements in tone and texture, especially those who want minimal downtime. Its 1064 nm wavelength is suitable for all skin types and tones. Treatment may not be recommended if you have an active skin infection or inflammatory skin condition in the treatment area, a recent tan, or are pregnant, or if you take medications that make your skin more sensitive to light. Our provider will review your skin and medical history during your consultation and share a realistic plan and timeline for your goals.

Plan for about an hour at your appointment. A topical numbing cream may be applied first, followed by about 15 to 30 minutes of treatment depending on the area. Treating multiple areas may take a little longer. Most patients describe the sensation as a quick snap, similar to a rubber band against the skin.

Many patients reapply makeup and return to their day right after treatment. Others notice temporary redness or swelling, which typically settles within a few days. Recovery can vary from person to person and even from one treatment to the next. Follow our provider’s aftercare instructions, use any recommended aftercare products as directed, and apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily to protect your results.

Many patients notice brighter, smoother skin after their first session, with continued improvement over the following weeks. For pigmentation, signs of aging, or uneven texture, most patients need 1 to 3 sessions spaced over a couple of months. Maintenance treatments about every 6 months, or sooner if you spend a lot of time in the sun, help keep your skin looking its best.

Yes. PicoLazer’s two wavelengths target a wide range of ink colors, from black and blue to lighter shades like red and yellow. The laser shatters ink into tiny particles that your immune system gradually clears. The number of sessions depends on the size, location, and colors of your tattoo. Most tattoos need anywhere from a few to about 10 treatments spaced around 8 weeks apart. Lighter ink colors are treated with a wavelength best suited to lighter skin tones, so our provider will review your options during your consultation.
